We love working with kids!
So, we’ve created a few ways to make our walks more fun and meaningful for the young people who join us.
REQUEST A DISCOVERY GUIDE
To help kids connect to the walk experience as much as possible, we have created a Discovery Guide that we will be happy to send you via email when you book a walk. It's intended to be used before and after a walk experience. There’s just too much going on during a walk to use it then.
TURN-ON THE ACTOR IN YOUR kidS
(This is fun for adults too!)
If you have kids (or adults) who love to ham-it-up and are serious about history, consider having them take an active role in the walk you book. We suggest that each child (or adult) who would like a role do some pre-walk research about their character and the period in which the walk is set. We have a selection of questions related to each character (see below) to help direct this research. Then, along with the historical figure (actor) on the walk, each child (or adult) will help tell the story about some interesting White House history.
BASED ON THE WALK BOOKED, KIDS (OR ADULTS) CAN COME PREPARED TO PLAY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
Liz Carpenter’s companion working on First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson’s Beautification Campaign.
A reporter for the National Intelligence Newspaper who is on the walk to report on John Ousley’s current work in the White House gardens.
A member of the White House Secret Service who is very glad to see Quentin not creating mischief!
There will be appointed times in the walk for each child (or adult) to actively participate using his or her own words. We encourage coming in period dress!
This is great fun!
